A Balanced Body and Mind
Are you using a face serum? If yes, why not use a body serum as well? As I’ve been mentioning throughout the blog, our skin absorbs between 60 to 70% of what we put on it. The stuff goes right into our bloodstream. This is why it is so much better for our well-being to exclude harsh chemicals and instead welcome ingredients with healing properties. This is not always 100% possible in every situation and that’s OK, as long as the majority of what you get into your system is doing you good. For example, if you just switch out your shower gel and your body lotion, you’ve already eliminated 80% of the bad stuff. The amazing thing about a body serum is that it doesn’t just nourish your skin, but also awakens your senses through essential oils. Unlike other organic skincare that needs to use alcohol as a preservative, serums are made mainly with oils and without harsh alcohol. The oils work their healing ingredients into your system. The result is a better feeling you.
KHUS+KHUS Modern Herbal Fusion SURYA Body Serum
KHUS+KHUS’ products are based in ayurvedic tradition, combining oils and herbal extracts into a potent serum. All products are 100% plant based, 99% organic and cruelty free. Their black miron glass bottles keep the products fresh and protected of damaging light. The Surya Body Serum feels nourishing and is absorbed quickly, leaving no oily residue behind. Surya means “sun” and is meant to create an uplift for your mind and body. It smells lovely like mandarin, benzoin and mimosa (not our favorite brunch drink, but the plant ;)). These are all the amazing ingredients:
- Red Mandarin essential oil is aromatherapeutic, promotes cell growth and also improves circulation
- Neroli essential oil also comes from a citrus plant and thus has similar qualities as mandarin, plus it has an uplifting scent that brings stress relief
- Siam Benzoin: is another uplifting and relaxing oil, that is anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic. Great for massages
- Argan Oil: is one of the skincare world’s favorite oils as it is moisturizing, anti-aging and protects against the sun
- Jojoba Oil: is moisturizing and controls oily and acne prone skin through its microbial properties
- Rosehip Co2: is packed with vitamins and essential fatty acids
The serum is 200 ml of the best ingredients out there – just pure without alcohol, stabilizers or fragrances. This is pretty amazing and while it is definitely not cheap, compared to many a face serum it’s a steal.
In recent years Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medicine practice, has been experiencing a renaissance in the wellness and natural skincare movement. For a good reason: I deeply trust that things, rituals and beliefs that have lasted thousands of years, have some proved value. In Ayurveda, meaning “knowledge of life” in Sanskrit, body, mind and spirit are seen as a whole and need to be in balance. Yoga practice, meditation and plant knowledge go hand in hand. If you had an ayurvedic massage or are interested in nutrition, you might have heard of the three different energy types before.
This ancient plant and herb based practice categorizes three types of energy (Doshas), that are characteristic of mind and body: Vata (Wind), Pitta (Fire), and Kapha (Earth). Depending on which type you are, there are different foods and herbs available for you to keep body and mind in balance.
